About the Editor

"I launched this blog because I was tired of seeing travelers make the same costly mistakes. Not because of bad intentions, but because they were relying on advice from people who had never actually sailed the product they were recommending."

Hello, I'm Gregg

I'm an 18-year veteran of the cruise industry. I've sailed on more than 50 cruises and visited destinations from Alaska to the Bahamas, the East and West Caribbean, Europe, and Mexico. I started this blog as an antidote to the generic, commission-driven advice that fills the internet—cruise recommendations written by people who've sailed twice, or not at all.

The cruise industry is not monolithic. Royal Caribbean and Crystal Cruises are both "cruise lines," but recommending one when a traveler needs the other is like recommending a Carnival ride when they asked for a quiet walk in a museum. The differences matter, and understanding them is what this site is about.

My Background

My education includes a B.S. in Broadcasting from the University of Florida and a Master's Certificate in Six Sigma from Villanova University. The Six Sigma background sounds out of place in travel writing, but it's shaped how I evaluate products: systematically, against defined standards, with attention to what actually delivers value versus what just sounds good in a brochure.

Professionally, I served as President of a boutique cruise agency in Maine. I was Vice President and General Manager of a major cruise retailer in Florida. And I served as Senior Director of Call Center Operations with one of the largest travel companies in the world, where I learned what travelers actually ask when they're confused, what concerns them when they're anxious, and what delights them when things go right.

Certifications & Credentials

The cruise industry has its own professional certification ecosystem. Here are mine:

Professional Certifications
CLIA ACC (Accredited Cruise Counselor) Celebrity Special Agent Cunard Commodore Princess Commodore Crystal Cruises Expert Holland America 5-Star Agent NCL Specialist Plus Royal Caribbean Expert Alaska Specialist Hawaii Specialist Tokyo Specialist

These aren't just marketing badges. The line-specific certifications require coursework, product knowledge exams, and in many cases, actual ship inspections. The CLIA ACC certification is the industry standard for independent cruise counselors—it covers itinerary planning, ship evaluation, client needs assessment, and booking procedures.

My Philosophy

The right cruise for you isn't the most expensive or the most popular. It's the one that matches your travel style, budget, and expectations. A $799 Carnival sailing that exceeds your expectations is a better vacation than a $4,000 Crystal sailing that you find stuffy and slow. The job of this site is to help you figure out which one you actually want.

I don't represent any cruise line. I have no financial arrangement with any booking agency. I don't accept free cruises in exchange for reviews. The opinions here are my own, shaped by two decades of professional experience and personal sailings.
